[Weekly M&A] Industrial Landscape Reshaped by Mega Deals, Continued Investment in Future Technologies such as AI and Robotics

[Weekly Pitch: VC & M&A] This is this week's core venture investment and M&A briefing brought to you by News Epoch. (2026.02.27 ~ 2026.03.06)

In this week's venture investment and M&A market, mega deals worth trillions of won captured the market's attention, while strategic investments in core future technology sectors such as AI, robotics, and semiconductors continued actively. The participation of large conglomerates and major venture capitals serves as a key driver accelerating the growth of promising startups. However, news of investment capital depletion by some companies suggests that a prudent financial strategy is essential in a highly volatile market.

M&A Market Heats Up with Trillion-Won Mega Deals

This week's M&A market is seeing clear signs of industrial reshaping as major big deals are announced one after another. The most notable transaction is De Heus's acquisition of CJ Feed&Care for 1.2 trillion won, a strategic move to expand into the Asian feed and livestock market. Along with this, CGBio, a company specializing in bio regenerative medicine, was acquired by IMM Private Equity for approximately 600 billion won, adding vitality to the buyout market. The global specialty coffee franchise Blue Bottle was also acquired by China's Luckin Coffee for 600 billion won, drawing the industry's attention.

M&A activities among mid-sized companies are also active. UCK Partners re-acquired the wedding hall operator U-MOMENT for 200 billion won to pursue business expansion. In addition, SK Discovery decided to sell its entire stake in its subsidiary SK Eternix to the global investment firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts (KKR), and Seoul Electric Wire has emerged as an AI beneficiary stock and was put up for sale with a valuation of around 300 billion won. Global companies' interest in the domestic market is also growing, as seen with the British textile company Coats exploring the acquisition of the domestic firm You Young Industrial.

Investment Concentrated on Future Technologies such as AI, Robotics, and Semiconductors

Investment in technology sectors to secure future growth engines remains hot. In the AI sector, vertical farming solutions company N.THING attracted an investment of 15.8 billion won from Samsung Venture Investment, proving the growth potential of its AI agricultural platform technology. Action Power attracted a 6 billion won Series B investment for its AI-based speech-to-text service, and Welmatics secured global investment with its AI-based advanced material design platform technology. Digital olfactory data specialist ILIAS AI also attracted investment from overseas venture capital, demonstrating the scalability of its AI technology. In particular, synergies between large venture capitals and AI technology companies are highly anticipated, such as SBVA collaborating with OpenAI to promote the value enhancement of its portfolio companies.

Investments also continued in the robotics sector. Industrial robot manufacturer Robocon attracted a 10 billion won Series C investment, and VISCAT, which develops an autonomous robot operation platform, received seed investment. Ultra-high-speed wireless communication semiconductor developer Unicon received an 18.5 billion won Series B investment, strengthening the competitiveness of its core semiconductor technology. In the bio and healthcare sector, immune anticancer drug developer Ticaros secured a 20.8 billion won Series D investment, accelerating its blood cancer clinical trials. Besides these, various bio and healthcare companies such as Crosspoint Therapeutics, TODOC, Risorius, and Roga attracted investments. Interest in clean energy technology is also high. Water electrolysis technology and liquid hydrogen storage device developer AHES successfully closed a 6 billion won Series A investment.

Major Trends in the M&A and Restructuring Market

As a notable mid-sized deal, Constant, which operates a hair loss analysis-based subscription service platform, raised 11 billion won from Korea Investment Partners, Amorepacific, and Hana Ventures. Ship block and shipbuilding equipment manufacturing company Mibu Heavy Industries received a 12.2 billion won investment. Performance content production and distribution specialist Brush Theatre attracted a 10 billion won Series A investment. Financial system solution provider N2SOFT was acquired by PFC Technologies, commencing its AI transition in earnest.

In addition, U&SOFT attracted a 2.2 billion won Pre-A investment for its non-face-to-face activation platform, and influencer marketing platform Featuring attracted a 3 billion won follow-on investment. The Kyobo Group executed a strategic investment in blockchain infrastructure company DSRV Labs. In the digital asset market, Focus AI acquired the Busan Digital Asset Exchange for 12.1 billion won, heralding market changes. However, Busan EP's 850 billion won acquisition of NexFlex faces growing uncertainty due to difficulties in securing funds, and the sale of Homeplus Express is also seemingly struggling. The news that virtual asset robo-advisor firm Uprise has exhausted its 52 billion won accumulated investment and stands at a crossroads of survival has sounded an alarm in the market.

[Epoch Point]

This week's market moved around the two main pillars of overwhelmingly large M&As and investments in core future technologies such as AI, robotics, and semiconductors. Companies are seeking growth engines through business restructuring and the acquisition of new technologies. However, the deterioration of asset soundness in some companies suggests that closer investment reviews and securing financial stability are essential in a highly volatile market.
