Warren Buffett Suddenly Suspends Donation to the Gates Foundation.. Likely to Await Epstein Investigation Results

Warren Buffett, the 95-year-old chairman of Berkshire Hathaway known as the 'Oracle of Omaha,' has suddenly suspended his multi-billion dollar donation to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which he has traditionally made in the middle of each year. This is interpreted as his intention to personally review the results of an ongoing external review into the past ties between the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and the Gates Foundation before deciding on his next steps.

According to major foreign media outlets such as The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) and Reuters, Buffett has postponed his final decision on whether to donate until the second half of this year, and it is reported that he may express his position as early as through his annual Thanksgiving letter. Reuters added that it had requested comments from Berkshire Hathaway and the Gates Foundation regarding the report but did not receive an immediate response.

The Gates Foundation has been embroiled in ongoing controversy due to Chairman Bill Gates's past relationship with Epstein. The fallout grew even larger, particularly in January, when emails released by the U.S. Department of Justice revealed circumstances of communication between Epstein and Gates Foundation employees. Accordingly, Mark Suzman, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Gates Foundation, commissioned an external investigation to objectively evaluate the extent of the foundation's past involvement with Epstein, and the results of this investigation are scheduled to be announced sometime this summer.

The impact of this donation suspension on charities and the market is expected to be significant. This is because Buffett has acted as the foundation's most steadfast supporter, donating over $47 billion in Berkshire Hathaway stock to the Gates Foundation under a firm pledge to return most of his wealth to society over the past 20-plus years.

Meanwhile, 70-year-old Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has suffered a major blow to his reputation after the U.S. Department of Justice released additional Epstein-related documents in February. However, Gates has not been charged with any crimes. While repeatedly expressing regret over becoming involved with Epstein, he has firmly drawn a line against suspicions of criminal involvement, stating that he has never spent time with Epstein's sex crime victims nor witnessed his criminal activities.
