Cloud and artificial intelligence (AI) software specialized company Okestro continued its steep top-line growth in 2025. However, as aggressive business expansion coincided with large-scale investments to secure new technologies such as hyper-scale AI, it appears the company could not significantly reduce its operating loss.
2025 Earnings Summary: Operating Loss in the 30 Billion Won Range Continues Despite 27% Revenue Growth
According to the 2025 audit report and condensed income statement disclosed by Okestro, Okestro's operating revenue (sales) in 2025 recorded 94,740.62 million won, an increase of about 27% compared to the previous year (74,563.87 million won). This is the highest revenue since the company's foundation.
However, the challenges overshadowed by this high growth are also clear. The operating loss in 2025 was 30,783.93 million won, continuing a deficit of a similar scale to the previous year (-30,982.32 million won). The net loss for the period also recorded 27,689.93 million won, showing a slight increase in the deficit compared to the previous year (-27,048.86 million won).
Causes of Deficit: '12-fold Explosion in R&D Expenses' and 'Increase in Outsourcing Costs'
A detailed analysis of the audit report reveals that the core reason for the failure to reduce losses lies in explosively increased operating expenses. The total operating expenses in 2025 amounted to 125.5 billion won, a sharp increase of about 20 billion won compared to the previous year (105.5 billion won).
The most notable item is 'ordinary research and development (R&D) expenses'. R&D expenses, which were a mere 1 billion won in 2024, exploded by more than 12 times to 12.3 billion won in 2025. This is due to a massive expansion in R&D activities aimed at advancing artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud technologies. Furthermore, along with payroll expenditures amounting to 24 billion won, the 'outsourcing costs,' which account for the largest share of operating expenses, increased by more than 11% from 60,458.35 million won in the previous year to 67,380.06 million won in 2025, which significantly hindered profitability improvements.
2019-2025 Earnings Trend: From a Profitable Company to a Quantum Jump Based on a 'Planned Deficit'
Looking at Okestro's trajectory over the past seven years, the company's aggressive scale-up strategy is clearly revealed.
The top-line (revenue) shows an explosive upward curve. Revenue, which was merely 1.7 billion won in 2019, has achieved a 'quantum jump' of nearly doubling every year to 6 billion won in 2020, 13.5 billion won in 2021, 33.8 billion won in 2022, 51.5 billion won in 2023, 74.5 billion won in 2024, and 94.7 billion won in 2025.
On the other hand, the profit trend completely reversed starting in 2023. The company consistently generated operating profit surpluses until 2019 (180 million won), 2020 (110 million won), 2021 (1.26 billion won), and 2022 (1.41 billion won), but shifted to a massive deficit starting in 2023 (-18.3 billion won), when it fully injected funds into talent acquisition and ecosystem expansion to pre-empt the early cloud market. The continuation of the deficit into 2024 (-30.9 billion won) and 2025 (-30.7 billion won) is interpreted as a so-called 'planned deficit' strategy, betting on technology and market share rather than immediate profits.
Proving a Corporate Value of 630 Billion Won... Loading 'Ammunition' Through Solid Investment Attraction
Behind Okestro's ability to continue such aggressive R&D investment and top-line expansion lies a robust fundraising capability.
Okestro started by attracting a 22 billion won investment from IMM Investment in 2022, and in the following year, 2023, succeeded in attracting a large-scale investment totaling 130 billion won from STIC Investments, IMM Investment, Korea Development Bank (KDB), and Industrial Bank of Korea (IBK). The estimated corporate value evaluated by the market at the time reached a staggering 630 billion won. In just over a year, its corporate value skyrocketed more than threefold, proving that it is approaching the ranks of a 'unicorn company.'
The secured large-scale funds and bold R&D investments are leading to Okestro's recent major business achievements.
To strengthen its hyper-scale AI business, Okestro is accelerating technology internalization by abruptly acquiring 'Lifelog,' a generative AI startup that possesses hallucination reduction technology based on small large language models (sLLM). In addition, it is expanding its territory beyond the domestic market to the global stage by exporting the 'Sovereign AI Cloud Solution Package' to an AI data center in Japan, and it is encompassing the entire infrastructure ecosystem by partnering with DC Korea to build an urban-type 'Sovereign AI Cloud Data Center.'
Although massive operating losses continue, Okestro's relentless moves to seize technological leadership are not expected to stop for the time being, given that AI and cloud infrastructure have become core competitive advantages for nations and enterprises today.
