Shortbox, Psick Univ, etc., 'Changed the Landscape of South Korean Comedy' Meta Comedy Sees Revenue Jump 34%, Operating Profit Surge 96%

There is a place that has opened a new golden age for the Korean comedy market, which had faced a crisis with the decline of terrestrial broadcast-centric public comedy. It is none other than Korea's first comedy label, 'Meta Comedy'. Meta Comedy is home to a large number of top creators currently enjoying the highest popularity in South Korea, including Jangbbijju, Psick Univ (Lee Yong-joo, Jung Jae-hyung, Kim Min-soo), Shortbox (Kim Won-hoon, Cho Jin-se, Eom Ji-yoon), Bbangsongguk (Kwak Beom, Lee Chang-ho), Beautiful Nerd, Snack Town, Gwana, Kim Hae-jun, and Park Se-mi.

Founded in 2021 by CEO Jung Young-joon, formerly of Sandbox Network, Meta Comedy broke away from the vertical structure where comedians are inspected by producers. Instead, it laid out a 'playground' for them to directly communicate with the public and showcase their own comedic art through the YouTube platform. Much like a hip-hop label or the Marvel Universe, various characters and worldviews have come together to create explosive synergy through content like 'Meta Comedy Club' as it has grown, establishing itself as a comedy kingdom that encompasses all generations, from Baby Boomers to Gen Z. Amidst the relentless performances of its creators, Meta Comedy recorded dazzling results in 2025, proving its potential with numbers.

Relentless Increase in Revenue and Profit

According to Meta Comedy's condensed income statement, the company has been drawing a steep growth curve every year since its establishment in 2021. Its revenue, which was around 1.15 billion won in 2021, surged rapidly to 11.4 billion won in 2022 and 22.9 billion won in 2023, demonstrating the potential of the comedy content market.

It seemed to catch its breath briefly in 2024 (approx. 21.7 billion won), but in 2025, it achieved 29.17 billion won, a roughly 34% increase in revenue compared to the previous year, successfully achieving another quantum jump. The improvement in profitability is particularly dazzling. The operating profit in 2025 was about 3.13 billion won, increasing by about 87% compared to the previous year (approx. 1.66 billion won), and net income also skyrocketed by about 114% to approximately 2.96 billion won compared to the previous year (approx. 1.38 billion won). This result proves that the company is solidly strengthening its internal stability as well as its external growth.

Out of the total revenue of about 29.17 billion won in 2025, about 27.79 billion won (over 95%) was generated from service revenue (product revenue was about 1.38 billion won). This means that commissions generated through management, appearance fees, and advertising production and agency work for its artists are Meta Comedy's main sources of income.

What stands out most of all is its excellent cost control. While revenue grew significantly compared to the previous year, it appropriately controlled outsourcing service costs (about 16.6 billion won), which account for the largest share of company expenditures, demonstrating overwhelming profitability by nearly doubling its operating profit.

Cash Assets Alone at 12.9 Billion Won... Aggressive Investments Including Academy Establishment and Global Expansion

The company's financial soundness is also highly excellent. As of the end of 2025, total assets stand at about 18.62 billion won, of which cash and cash equivalents amount to about 12.92 billion won, possessing very abundant liquidity.

This massive financial power underpins Meta Comedy's broad maneuvers. In fact, even in 2025, it newly acquired about 200 million won in exclusive contract fees, steadily continuing to recruit competitive artists. Furthermore, to nurture talent, it officially opened 'Meta Comedy Academy (MCA)' in March 2026, completing the vertical integration of the industry from comedian discovery to training, stage debut, and management. Along with the successful operation of the offline performance venue 'Meta Comedy Club Hongdae', it is also actively investing funds in global market expansion, such as hosting a Korea-Japan joint comedy show with Yoshimoto Kogyo, Japan's largest comprehensive entertainment company with a 112-year history.

Corporate Value Also Rising Simultaneously... Attracts 7 Billion Won Investment from LB Investment

Meta Comedy's corporate value is also expanding at a rapid pace. It was reported in 2025 that it attracted a 10 billion won scale investment from LB Investment, which contributed to fostering BTS by making an early investment in HYBE. However, the actual amount invested through new shares (paid-in capital increase amount) is estimated by data to be around 7 billion won.

According to PitchDeck, the estimated corporate value at the time of receiving the investment from LB Investment was about 67 billion won. Considering that the estimated corporate value was 16.5 billion won at the time of the previous investment round two years prior (2022), this means the corporate value has grown explosively by more than four times in just two years.

IPO is a Mid-to-Long-Term Task... Likely to Aim for Diversification of Profit Models

Expectations for an Initial Public Offering (IPO) are also blooming in line with the steep rise in performance, but Meta Comedy does not appear to be pushing for an IPO in a rush right now. CEO Jung Young-joon stated, "I think we can consider it someday when the company grows a little more," leaving only mid-to-long-term possibilities open.

Currently, the company's net income is around 3 billion won, and it is highly likely to wait for the optimal time to be evaluated with a higher corporate value by increasing the profit scale a bit more for a KOSDAQ listing. To this end, it seems they could independently increase their size or actively utilize M&A.

CEO Jung revealed his vision of mastering everything from mainstream laughs to niche, enthusiast laughs, stating, "We must become a company that supplies all kinds of comedy, from ramen to fine dining." To prove continuous growth as a listed company, it is now time for the diversification of profit models to materialize, ultimately moving beyond the current YouTube and performance-centric revenue to comedy film or sitcom production, global market expansion, and commerce.
