Lotte Card Suspended for 1.5 Months Due to Massive Customer Credit Information Leak... Halts New Recruitment from August 1

Lotte Card will suspend parts of its business, including the recruitment of new members, for a month and a half starting August 1 due to sanctions from financial authorities following a massive customer credit information leak.

On July 31, Lotte Card disclosed that it had received a partial business suspension, including credit card operations, from the Financial Services Commission after a large amount of credit information was leaked due to violations of its duties to ensure the safety of financial transactions and protect credit information.

The business suspension period is for about 1.5 months, from August 1 to September 15, 2026. During this period, the recruitment of new members for credit cards (excluding certain cards for public purposes), prepaid cards, and debit cards is prohibited, and the signing of financing agreements for new members will also be suspended.

The amount subject to this business suspension is approximately 66.07 billion won, which accounts for 2.48% of its recent annual sales (separate operating revenue of 2.6615 trillion won in 2025). Converted to the 1.5-month suspension period, it amounts to approximately 8.26 billion won.

Lotte Card stated that while a decrease in sales and operating profit is expected due to the halt in new recruitment, it will minimize the impact on its performance by strengthening benefits for existing members. In addition, the company plans to focus on restoring customer trust and normalizing operations early by increasing investment in its information protection budget and expanding its workforce.

Meanwhile, general financial services for existing members, such as card payments and the use of points, will be provided normally even during the business suspension period.
